Best Days in the Market

April 21, 2025

Enjoy this week's "Investor Insights," a weekly newsletter that highlights the financial news you need and provides tips and tricks for making better investment decisions.

  • A recent survey of American CEOs shows less optimism about the future. Only 26% of respondents plan to increase capital spending, and 29% expect to hire more employees —down sharply from 56% and 60%, respectively, in January. 1
  • While 71% of Amazon’s third-party sellers source products from China, the company is partially protected from tariffs thanks to its Web Services (AWS), which made up 58% of operating profit in 2024 despite representing just 17% of revenue. 2
  • The S&P 500's 16.9% drop from Inauguration Day to April 8 was the most significant 55-day decline into a Presidential term since 1928. The next worst was a 16% drop in early 2001 during George W. Bush's first term. *3
  • 78% of the stock market's best days have occurred during bear markets or the first two months of bull markets. Missing the 10 best days over the past 30 years would halve your returns, and missing the best 30 days would reduce returns by 83%. *4
