It Was a Pretty Penny
May 27, 2025
Enjoy this week's "Investor Insights," a weekly newsletter that highlights the financial news you need and provides tips and tricks for making better investment decisions.
In the past 50 years, the US has created 241 companies worth over $10 billion, compared to just 14 in Europe. Additionally, EU worker productivity has dropped from 95% of US worker productivity in the 1990s to under 80% today. 1
The government is ending penny production due to low demand and high costs—each penny now costs 3.69 cents to make. This move is expected to save $56 million a year. 2
A 65-year-old man can now expect to live to 83, and a woman to nearly 86. There's a 46% chance one person in a 65-year-old couple will live to 95—meaning retirement savings need to last longer than many expect. 3
Investors have poured $437 billion into US exchange-traded funds (ETFs) this year. If the trend continues, 2025 will be a record year. Notably, 30% of the new money went into active ETFs, even though they make up less than 10% of total ETF assets. 4
