U.S. data center construction spending reached a record $75.2 billion in July 2026, up 665% from just $9.5 billion in March 2020. Over the same period, office construction spending fell from its $72.2 billion peak to $44.8 billion. 1
Spending on basic necessities has steadily declined as a share of disposable personal income, falling from 53% in the late 1940s to 32% in 2024. Households are spending about 21 percentage points less of their income on the basics than they did after WWII. 1
$1 million in 1993 had the purchasing power of only about $475,000 by the end of 2024. At 3% inflation, purchasing power is cut in half roughly every 23 years, while at 4% it takes only about 17 years. 2
